Transitioning Decor & Food after Christmas
Christmas to Winter
The holiday season begins at Halloween and slowly builds over the next two months to a low roar by the time Christmas day arrives. As Christmas day wanes there is a small sting, because you know the festivities are coming to an abrupt end. Christmas has come and gone like a ghost in the night. That ache of being stuck between the sadness of the festivities ending and the need to move on is a hard one to balance. Over the years I realized that transitioning from the extreme fun of the holidays back to the everyday is made easier by slowly transitioning from Christmas to winter and then finally when I’m ready, everyday decor.
Simplifying for Winter
Transitioning is as simple as lightening up the holiday decorations. Remove the ribbons, take away the extra baubles, little trees (with the exception of leaving a few, because you can really never have enough trees), and mixing your winter decor with your everyday decor items, like antique books, clocks, vases etc. Now is also a great time to start experimenting with new vignette ideas or putting some of those Christmas presents that you received (or bought for yourself) to good use and seeing how they can work with what you have.
Treats, Treats & More Treats
One thing that I miss dearly after the Christmas season is all the special treats and recipes. If you’re like me, you over indulged at least a tidge and it’s probably time to cut back on all of the treats. You don’t have to give up all carbs and sugars, but find smart ways to swap them out with alternatives: at breakfast enjoy a bowl of pre-made low carb cereal or make our low carb granola, swap sugar out for sugar alternatives (I love monk fruit and erythritol mixes). When it comes to bread, I love Sola bread; I use it for garlic bread, French toast, plain Jane toast etc…yes, it’s low carb bread, but it’s some of the better low carb bread I’ve tasted. We absolutely love our chocolate ices and low carb hot chocolate recipes. Later this week, we will be sharing some desserts that are a bit lighter on the sugar and carbs. Swapping out carbs and sugars for better options help you transition from all of the delicious foods that you enjoyed during the holidays, so you don’t feel deprived, allowing you to get back to regular life.
Bigger Better Things
Making simple changes and transitioning back to everyday life after the holidays helps make saying goodbye to the holidays less traumatic and less of a let down. This is something you can do as quickly or as slowly as you need. There are so many options to easing back into the everyday from holiday season and these are just a few ideas to make it simpler. Now that you’ve moved on from Christmas, it’s time to move on to bigger and better things ahead in the new year!
