Crafting Low Carb Malted Magic

The timeless allure of a chocolate malt shake is made perfect when you don’t have to compromise your health-conscious goals. I love malt and quite frankly, the more the merrier, but it is a bit on the carby side. The great thing about malted milk is that it does not take a lot to pack a nice punch of flavor! You also have the option of skipping the malt altogether (gasp). Using sugar free syrups like Hershey’s Zero Sugar Chocolate Syrup and Jordan’s Skinny syrups are some of my favorite low carb sweetener options. In this low-sugar chocolate malt beverage, I also use Lily’s chocolate chips and roasted cacao beans to give the malt shake a deep, velvety chocolate flavor and texture.

Swapping Out High Carb for Low carb

Maybe you’re not going full on low carb, but you do want to make more health-conscious choices. Simply swap out regular chocolate syrup for sugar free chocolate syrup or flavored sugar syrups for sugar free syrups or regular whipped cream for no sugar added whipped cream. Find places where you feel like you can make the switch. While this low carb malted shake recipe is not a smoothie drink, it does have some elements of a smoothie. Embrace the velvety chocolate infusion and make this a keto-friendly frozen malted shake; swap the cow’s milk out for no sugar added almond milk and cut back or skip the malt altogether.

Guilt-free Without Sacrifice

This low carb frozen chocolate malt drink recipe doesn’t make me feel like I’m giving something up in the indulgence department. I am super picky about my low carb foods, so many have unpleasant aftertastes, weird textures, strange reactions in my belly; the list of problems with low carb ingredients could go on forever. So if I’m sharing a low carb recipe or keto-friendly recipe, that means it’s a good one. I also don’t like owning tools or ingredients that I will use for one recipe…multipurpose everything is how I like to roll. Sometime soon, we’ll use these ingredients again in another recipe.

Let’s Make Something Delicious

By harnessing the power of ingredient substitutions this guilt-free pleasure satisfies your malt cravings while supporting your low carb lifestyle. This recipe is really quite simple and it makes quite a bit, so when I make this I like to share with a friend. So, grab your blender, blend to perfection, and embark on a journey of malted magic with a low carb frozen chocolate malt drink—a treat worth savoring. LOW CARB CHOCOLATE MALT FROZEN DRINK

A simple & delicious low carb frozen chocolate
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Cuisine American
Servings 2

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Ice
  • 1/3 Cup Milk whole cow milk is my favorite but you can use almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk etc
  • 1 tsp  toasted and ground cacao
  • 1 tsp Lily’s chocolate chips
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp Jordan’s Skinny Syrup in salted caramel or to taste
  • 1/2 to 1 T Hershey's No Sugar Chocolate Syrup
  • 1 T Malted milk optional, but this is what really does it for me
  • Low sugar whipped cream to garnish optional

Instructions

  • Measure all of the chocolate malt ingredients (you can totally eyeball the amounts).
  • Add each ingredient to the blender.
  • Blend everything together on low. Once it's fairly combined, step the speed up to medium to fully blend the ice and the roasted cacao.
  • If you find that mixture isn't blending very well, add just a splash of milk.
  • If you eyeballed the ingredients or you're just fickle and picky like me, give the mixture a taste test before pouring.
  • Pour into your favorite cup, (I like to use an insulated cup) and enjoy!

Notes

This is one of the easiest and quickest recipes, as long as you clean the blender immediately after making!
