Scavenger Hunt for Adults

“I’m in love, I’m in love and I don’t care who knows it!!!” I exclaimed this line from Elf loudly and proudly over the phone, as I walked through the airport, letting my then fiancé know that I loved him and missed him terribly. My announcement turned a lot of heads, but I was going home after spending the weekend with my best friend-soon-to be husband and I really didn’t care who heard me. I just missed him. I’m still “I’m in love, I’m in love and I don’t care who knows it!!!” Love however, can transcend beyond humanity and can include experiences. I don’t think that the bounty of what life has to offer can ever show up empty handed or stagnate, unless we stop looking. I can’t seem to stop looking. It’s not for lack of satisfaction, I just know that there is something amazing waiting to be discovered and I want to find it.

I used to create scavenger hunts fully equipped with aged pirate maps. I was extremely proud of those maps, but being as I was only 10, I don’t know how great they actually were. I don’t remember the booty that we’d find, but I sure did love the experience. It’s probably what led in part, to my love of antiques. Today, I want to tell you about something that is very much akin to a scavenger hunt except for adults: Too Good To Go. Before you say: “oh wait this is just a sponsored post”, it’s not. I legit love Too Good To Go, they have no idea that I’m even writing this. I’m telling you about it, because I think it’s a pretty incredible opportunity to try restaurant foods at a massively discounted price. Yup! It’s an app where you can buy a restaurant’s unsold items at the end of the day for a major discount. I first saw Too Good To Go on Instagram and I was skeptical because I take everything I see online with a huge, chunky grain of salt.

You just pop onto the app, see what restaurant has availability, check to see what the pickup date and time is, and order. When you see a restaurant that you want to order from and it’s available, don’t hem and haw, order it. Nearly all restaurants sell out quickly. Some restaurants give how much they say they’ll give and some are almost too generous and load you up…which I completely love and appreciate. One thing to note, is that you don’t know what you’re going to get, it’s a surprise! I’ve found new foods and restaurants that I love. It’s made me more open minded about foods that I’m willing to try. I don’t generally buy desserts at restaurants, but there’s this bagel shop, Pete’s Bagels (which has the world’s best bagels) but they also sell desserts. Every last dessert they’ve given me has been trés magnifique. Like I’d pay full price even for one of their cookies and you know how I feel about cookies

I’ve used the app for a while now, verifying it, vetting it, trying new places, making sure the restaurants actually follow through with the orders. My biggest gripe about it and this really has nothing to do with the app, but the restaurant employees can be a bit persnickety about swiping to verify that you got your order, to the point of being a bit rude. This doesn’t even have to do with the fact that I got their food cheaper, it’s just how some people are, but in all fairness, you gotta swipe so the restaurant can get paid. Aside from that, it has been a good experience.

Krispy Kreme is new to using the app in my area so I gave them a try. In all honesty, I had really hoped to get some birthday cake doughnuts in my box. I’ve been in love with them since I did some work for them several years ago. I should have tempered my expectations, instead of imagining myself biting into a birthday cake doughnut with birthday cake cream oozing out the sides. I ordered two boxes and they were all glazed, I do still love glazed doughnuts. We’ll never get through 2 dozen doughnuts before they go bad, but you can freeze them! When you’re ready to have one, you just pop it into the microwave for 10 to 20 seconds depending on your microwave. Then you’ve got breakfast or treats covered for a while at a steep discount. You can freeze a lot of things, like bagels, croissants etc. Too Good To Go is pretty new in some areas, so depending on where you live there might not be restaurants in your area that are participating. New restaurants in my area continue to sign up, which has lead to discovering lots of new favorites. If you love trying new foods, looking for something fun to do, like to save money or discovering new things, Too Good To Go might just be what you’re looking for. Oh yeah, and it’s free!
