Popcorn & Strange Dilemmas
I don’t know about you, but I kinda, sorta love caramel cheddar popcorn. More specifically, I really like Cretors. Once The reason I only allow myself to have it once a year, is because I don’t just “like” it, I’m completely in love with it and I just keep eating it. “Ready for dinner?” “Dinner? What’s dinner? I have Cretors.” It’s one of very few things that I struggle to stop eating.
Several years ago I received a small packet of Cretors caramel cheddar popcorn in a subscription box like FabFitFun or something like that. I opened the mini bag and gobbled it down and wished there was more. I was thrilled when I found out that Sam’s carried it in a giant sized bag. Then I found myself buying it too often. So I made a rule for myself: once a year. It may seem extreme, but I can eat a lot of popcorn. So it’s a completely reasonable rule. Yes, I know that the Christmas tins of popcorn are akin to Cretors, but it’s merely skin walker popcorn. It’s not the same thing. There’s something however, that I don’t like about Cretors luscious caramel cheddar combo: the caramel to cheddar ratio is way off.
When it comes to sweet, I need the sweetness to be balanced. With this popcorn I want 2 to 3 pieces of cheddar to one piece of caramel. With this consumption method, I’m left with no cheddar popcorn halfway through the bag. It’s a pretty terrible dilemma to be in. After many years of dealing with this, I finally have a solution: buy the bag of caramel popcorn from Sam’s and get two small bags of Cretors cheddar popcorn. Yes, I know this sounds ridiculous, but hear me out. Once the cheddar is all but gone, add one of the separate bags of the cheddar to the caramel and you’ve basically got a second bag of Cretor’s. Here’s how I look at it: I can have half a bag of caramel corn that I won’t enjoy very much OR I can refresh the bag with more cheddar corn and thoroughly enjoy it again.
If you run into this “problem” with Cretors or some other food where you feel the ratios are off, consider adding a second bag of the flavor you need, to bring the ratio to a mix that fits your strange, persnickety style.
