DIY Mini Candy Cane Bows

As we get ready to head into Christmas, I wanted to share how I make candy cane bows. These candy cane bows are easy and the leftover pieces can be crushed to make sprinkles for cookies, cakes etc.

Preheat oven to 200F. You’re going to “criss cross”, “throw mama from the train” (thanks Danny DeVito) I mean just criss cross, two mini candy canes on a pan lined with parchment. Take a third candy cane and gently press a knife at the crook of the candy cane. It doesn’t take much at all to break it, so take it easy when you press the knife into the candy. You will want to cut it like the photo below. Put the cut crook over the two crossed candy canes. Place in the oven for 15 to 25 minutes or until it seems the candy canes have gently melted into each other. Now, we’re not going for a puddle here, just gently melted into the other. Give the candy cane bow’s center, a gentle push to make sure each piece is attached. Allow to cool. Once cool, use your cute little bows on cakes, at a cocoa bar or any which way your heart desires.

Tips:  I liked the way the “bows” looked with the open part of the crook on the bottom of the bow. I made sure to position each candy cane the same way, for a consistent look. You might like a more inconsistent look, just play with the positioning until you find the look you like.
